The Invisalign brand of aligners are popular with many adults that are interested in realigning their smile. The clear, durable plastic makes it hard for the casual observer to even notice you are wearing them.
At your first appointment one of the orthodontists at Advanced Center for Orthodontics will conduct a thorough examination of your mouth. This usually includes and taking a series X-rays and creating an impression of your teeth as well as your personal bite pattern. This is all sent to the Invisalign laboratory where they produce a series of three to four aligner trays for you.
For the shortest and most effective duration of treatment, you will need to wear the Invisalign clear plastic aligners for at least 20 hours per day. Over the course of two weeks this will slowly stretch the periodontal ligaments anchoring your teeth toward their new alignment. Every two weeks you will switch to another set of Invisalign aligners that are tuned one step closer to your alignment goal. On the average, most people meet their alignment goals in three or four sets of aligners
While you are wearing Invisalign, you can drink normally. Keep in mind that you will need remove them before eating. You should also avoid chewing gum, smoking or using other tobacco products while the Invisalign aligners are in your mouth.
Make sure to maintain your regular oral hygiene routine of brushing and flossing twice a day throughout the realignment process. You should also rinse the aligners each day with an antiseptic mouthwash to refresh them and remove plaque and food particles.
